Life
seemed simpler in September, 1961, when we entered Longmont High (this
was to become the "old
high school building"
on Main Street in Longmont). We became of age with the assassination of
President John F. Kennedy
in
November, 1963.
Who can forget the hushed classrooms, silent hallways and tear stained
faces? Human rights issues began to raise our social consciousness and
landing of
U.S. Marines
in
Vietnam
sent many
of us to check the world geography maps. Little did we
realize this war would claim the lives of several
Longmont High students.
We also saw the advent of some great cars such as
Mustangs,
GTO's,
Corvettes,
and some real "heavy" cars. Was dragging Main Street a part of our
genetic makeup? Who would have believed our
American Rock n' Roll
was now more
"British?"
Someday it may not matter whether any of us become rich
or famous. However, what does matter is that for a brief time, when we
were younger, we shared a precious part of our lives with each other.
Time can soften the heart and fade the memories that may have angered or
saddened our hearts. So, this is a good time to gather again, like we
did 44 years
ago, and be grateful for the
blessings that life has given us. Plus, this is also a good time to check to see how we're holding up
while on that "long path of life"
(A
New Troy--1965 Trojan Yearbook).
We
look forward to hearing from all of you! But, most of all, we would love to
see you at our next
Class Reunion!
It will be 50 years. Can you believe it? |
