Jan. 29, 1947 — Dec. 15, 2002 Larry Joe Schwindt of Lakewood died Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002, at Hospice of Saint John in Lakewood. He was 55. He was born Jan. 29, 1947, to Alex and Elizabeth (Erbes) Schwindt in Longmont. He graduated from Longmont High School in 1965, the first class to graduate from the then-new building. Mr. Schwindt served in the U.S. Army. He was discharged May 1, 1969. He received the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal and the Bronze Star Medal. He worked for Qwest for 32 years until his retirement in October 2001. Mr. Schwindt enjoyed golfing, fishing, traveling, sports and street rods. He was a member of the Mead Fishing Club. He will be remembered as a loving son, father and brother who had great courage. Mr. Schwindt was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his mother of Loveland; two daughters, Kristi Lea Schwindt of Morrison and Kori Lyn Gillen and her husband Justyn of South Lake Tahoe, Calif.; a sister, Sharon Hewitt and her husband Dan of Loveland; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Marilyn Yoder Boeke of Central Presbyterian Church in Longmont officiating. Inurnment will be in Foothills Gardens of Memory in Longmont.

Elizabeth She was born July 30, 1913, in Windsor, Colorado, to Henry and Katie (Stromberger) Erbes. Elizabeth married Alex Schwindt on January 17, 1937, in Berthoud. She moved to Longmont in 1955 and then to Loveland in 2001. Elizabeth was a homemaker and mother. She worked as a machine operator at the Gould Filter plant from 1944 until retiring in 1975. She was a member of the Longmont United Hospital Auxiliary from 1973 until 2007, where she sewed baby blankets for the hospital’s gift shop and had volunteered over 18,000 hours. Elizabeth also was a member of Central Presbyterian Church, the Prestige Club and the Moose Lodge. She enjoyed sewing and was a Denver Broncos and Colorado Rockies fan. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Alex Schwindt on March 17, 2001; her son, Larry Joe Schwindt, in 2002; a great-granddaughter, Lindsey Maltsbarger; a brother, Ed; and three sisters, Mary, Kathryn and Katie. Survivors include her daughter, Sharon Hewitt (Dan) of Loveland; a brother, Henry Erbes; a sister, Isabelle Schleiger; two sisters-in-law, Geraldine Aschenbrenner and Helen Edwards; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Tuesday, December 16, 2008, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, with family present to greet friends. Memorial service 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 17, 2008, at Loveland Good Samaritan Village Chapel. Interment 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 17, 2008, at Foothills Gardens of Memory. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Loveland Good Samaritan Village for its Make-A-Wish or Activities programs or to Pathways Hospice (formerly Hospice of Larimer County) and sent to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.
