Edward R.LANE Jr. of Longmont died Friday, March 23, 2007, at his home following a short illness and emphysema. He was 54 years old.

Ed was born Nov. 29, 1952, in Kingston, N.Y., to Edward R. Lane Sr. and Velma Agnes Personeus Lane. Edward Sr. and his wife, Ann Lane, moved the family to Longmont in 1965 from Poughkeepsie, N.Y. As a young boy, Ed enjoyed playing baseball in Little League, and later pitched for his Legion A baseball teams.

After graduating from Longmont High School in 1971, Ed served in the Army and later the Navy for more than 13 years. He worked for several area companies such as Sherwood Enterprises, Great Western Sugar, Frontier Metal Stamping, and Gerard’s Bakery.

Mr. Lane took pride in his garden, planting vegetables and flowers alike. He also was a great friend to animals, and loved each of his cats as children.

He is survived by his stepmother, Ann Lane of Longmont; a sister, Ruth Murray and her husband Doug of Longmont; a brother, Raymond Lane of Denver; a nephew, Jade Wilson and his wife Katie of Denver; and his longtime friend, David Werner of Longmont.

He was preceded in death by his father and by his sister, Luanne Lane.

Memorial services will be held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 27, 2007, at Howe Mortuary in Longmont. Interment will follow at the Longmont Mountain View Cemetery.
