"Longmonter Boosts Morale"

Albert Borrego Jr., son of Albert and Elvinia Borrego of Longmont, recently received the highest U.S. Air Force award in the Morale, Welfare and Recreational Logistics Support field for 1992. The award was presented to Borrego at a worldwide conference held October 26 at the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio.

Borrego received the award for outstanding contributions to the Air Force Morale, Welfare and Recreation Program (MWR) while assigned as the chief MWR Logistics Manager for the Ramstein Air Base in Germany. In addition to this distinguished award, which recognizes Borrego and his accomplishments in the United States Air Force in Europe, eh also received awards naming him the 17th Air Force in Europe MWR Logistics Manager of the Year and the U.S. Air Forces in Europe MWR Logistics Support Manager of the Year.

Borrego was raised in Longmont during the depression. He graduated from Longmont High School in 1950 and began service in the U.S. Air Force in January of that year. He served until August 1974.

Tours of duty included Air Force bases within the United States, two tours in the United Kingdom, one tour in France, several tours in the Republic of Germany, and one in Vietnam. Currently, Borrego resides in Kaiserslautern, West Germany, with his wife, Paula, and their two daughters, Ramona and Nancy. He is employed with the U.S. MWR and Services Squadron located at Ramstein Air Base in West Germany.
