Around 5:27 p.m., an accident at the intersection of Colo. Highway 402 and Larimer County Road 7 killed a Loveland couple, according to Colorado State Patrol.

The couple's 1992 Chevy truck was hit head-on by Mark Howe of Brighton when his 2002 Ford Ranger veered off the left side of LCR 7, crossed the corner of a field, struck an above-ground gas line and re-entered the eastbound lane of Colo. 402. The couple were dead on the scene, according to Colorado State Patrol, and neither was wearing a seat belt.

Howe is known to be diabetic, police said, and it is unknown whether he blacked out because of his condition. He was transported to Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins and is listed in critical condition. Howe was undergoing surgery at press time, according to a nursing supervisor at the hospital.

A house near the site of the accident was evacuated briefly after the accident due to a leak from the gas the line the man hit, but the situation was quickly resolved, according to the Loveland Fire Department."
