John Arnold
HOPP
passed away October 9, 2008 at his home. He was born February 17, 1948
to Conrad Hopp Jr. and Frieda Hopp, who preceded John in death. John’s
brother Kenneth Hopp also preceded him in death.
John is survived by his brother, Conrad Hopp and his wife Martha
of Firestone, CO.; brother, Paul Hopp and his wife Janice of Mead, CO;
brother, Walter Hopp and his wife Charlette of Longmont, CO; sister,
Sherri Bauer and her husband Fred of Eaton, CO; sister, Sandra Nelson
and her husband Fred of Broomfield, CO.
John was raised on a farm in Mead, Colorado and graduated from
Longmont High School
in 1966. After graduating from High School, John attended Northeastern
Jr. College, Sterling Colorado. In 1969, he then transferred to the
University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. John also attended Eastern
Montana College, Aims College and the Colorado Graduate School of
Banking. He then worked in the Banking industry for many years. For the
past 8 years John has been a Credit Analyst at Sunrise Medical.
In 1969, John A. Hopp joined the United States Army. While in the
Army John received many awards, commendations and achievement metals;
including the National Defense Service Medal, Bronze Service Stars,
Vietnam Campaign Medal, in addition to multiple badges. John left the
Armed Services in December 1970.
In 1971, John’s married Beverly J. Bistline, and they later
divorced.
John had four children: Son, Stephen and his wife JoBeth, and
their children Keely, Hailey and Dane, of Miamisberg, OH; son, Gregg
Hopp and his wife Mariah, and their children, Carson, Jaden and Lola, of
Boise, ID; daughter Dawn Hopp Teply and her husband James, and their
children Peyton, Sydney, Connor and Rowan, of Boise, ID; and Deborah
Hopp Newstadt, and her husband Edgar of McCall, ID.
John remarried to Linda Margaret VanZee September 27, 2004. John
accepted Linda’s children as if they were his own. Son, Jon VanZee and
his wife Christy, and their daughter, Alexis, of Longmont; son, Mark
VanZee and his wife Kristin, and their children Aubry, Alec, Trevor and
Wyatt, of Longmont; and son, Daniel VanZee and his fiancé Jennifer, and
their children, Olivia, Hunter and Payton.
John was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. John was very
involved in the church – he sung in the choir for 5 years, was the
President of the Church Council and taught a weekly Bible Study for Men
at his home for 5 years. John’s hobbies and interests included reading,
writing, volleyball, dancing and singing.
John cherished all his children and loved to cheer them on in all
of their athletic and academic achievements. He loved to spend time with
all of the 18 grandchildren. All of his grandchildren, family and
friends were blessed to know him.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12,
2008 at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m.,
Monday, October 13, 2008 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Longmont.
Interment will be at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery. Military Honors
U.S. Army Honor Guard and American Legion Post #32. Contributions may be
made to Bethlehem Lutheran Church and sent in care of Ahlberg Funeral
