Feb. 29, 1920 — Dec. 19, 2007   Jean D.WALKER , 87, of Longmont died Wednesday, December 19, 2007 at her home.

She was born February 29, 1920 in Camden, New Jersey to Franklin and Elizabeth A. (Guy) Diffenderfer.

Jean graduated from Wilson College with a bachelor’s degree in teaching in the early 1940s. She obtained her master’s degree from Millersville State College in Pennsylvania in 1975. She studied in Paris, France at the Sorbonne School on a Fulbright Scholarship.

She married Dr. Robert E. Walker on May 4, 1946 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Jean moved to Longmont in 1946 from Pennsylvania.

Jean was a Latin and French teacher at Longmont High School and also taught at Longs Peak Junior High and Niwot High School. She retired in 1985.

Jean was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, AAUW and Central Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed playing the piano, knitting and spending time with her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.

Survivors include her sons, Timothy F. “Tim” Walker and his wife Linda of Richmond, Texas and James G. “Jim” Walker and his wife Ginny of Longmont; three grandchildren, Zach Walker, Elizabeth “Betsy” Doucette and her husband Scott and Katherine “Kayti” Walker and two great-grandchildren, Conner and Ryan Doucette. Visitation 3 to 6 p.m. Friday, December 21, 2007 at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel with family present to greet friends. Funeral service 10 a.m. Saturday, December 22, 2007 at Central Presbyterian Church with Rev. Joanne Buchanan-Brown of Mountain Valley Health Care officiating. Interment Longmont Mountain View Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Faithful Servant Fund or to Mountain Valley Hospice and sent to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.
