Colvin Hanscome
of Kersey died on Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2006, in a hospice
in Greeley. He was 59.
Mr. Hanscome was born Jan. 23, 1947, in Longmont to
Colvin E. and Georgeina O. (Gangl) Hanscome.
He married Rennae Coppage on April 24, 1971. The couple
later divorced in 1983. He married Julie on July 22,
1989, in Greeley.
Mr. Hanscome attended first through fourth grade in a
two-room country school. From fourth grade to
graduation, he attended school in Longmont graduating
from
Longmont High School in 1965.
He received his bachelor’s degree in agriculture
business at Colorado State University.
Mr. Hanscome was an FFA officer while a student at
Longmont High.
He was active in several dairy organizations and was
recently involved in the Wild West Ultra Light
Association and EAA chapter 720.
He was a dairy farmer. He also followed his dream of
flying and received his private pilot’s license in the
early 1990s.
He enjoyed flying the ultralights and general aviation
planes.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Mr. Hanscome is survived by his wife of Kersey; two
daughters, Amanda Hanscome of Kersey and Elizabeth
Hanscome of Kersey; two sons, Mike Hanscome and his wife
Coren of Loveland and Marty Hanscome of Kersey; his
mother of LaSalle; and a sister, Rosalie Muirhead and
her husband Allen of LaSalle.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug.
25, at Gloria Christi Lutheran Church in Greeley.

Mr Hanscome attended grade 1-4 in a two-room county

Care of Northern Colorado impatient unit in Greeley.

Loveland and Marty Hanscome of Kersey; his mother

Georgeina Hanscome

Mrs. Hanscome was born in Denver to George and Rose Ella
(Prell) Gangl, the eighth of nine daughters. On Aug. 14,
1939, she married Colvin E. Hanscome in Denver. They
were involved in agriculture all their married life,
milking cows and farming.
Geina's greatest joy came from watching her
grandchildren grow and have families of their own. She
also enjoyed gardening and nature and was an artist and
sculptor.
She attended schools in Adams County, Longmont and
Greeley. She was an active member in Gloria Christi
Lutheran Church, Kersey Homettes, La Salle Senior
Citizens, Greeley Art Association, Greeley Senior Center
and the Colorado Art Association.
Mrs. Hanscome died Tuesday.
Survivors: Her daughter, Rosalie Muirhead and husband
Allen D. of La Salle and a daughter-in-law Julie Hanscome of Kersey; seven grandchildren, Allen Muirhead
and wife Brenda of Kersey; Dean Muirhead of Black Canyon
City, Ariz., Cheryl Murphy and husband Tom of Hershey,
Neb., Michael Hanscome and wife Coren of Loveland,
Amanda Hanscome of Kersey, Elizabeth Hanscome of Kersey
and Marty Hanscome of Kersey; 6 great-grandchildren and
2 great-great grandchildren. Mrs. Hanscome also is
survived by one sister, Mrs. Francis Obrecht of Longmont
and numerous nieces and nephews, neighbors and friends.
Preceded in death by: Her parents; and seven sisters,
Madeline Eppinger, Anna Weber, Mary Rose Mitze, Rose
Francis Mitze, Elizabeth Hewes, Kathryn Pfertsch and
Josephine Hall; one brother, George A. Gangl, Jr.; her
husband, and her son,
Colvin M.
Hanscome.
Visitation: Viewing will be 4-8 p.m. on Friday at
Stoddard Funeral Home, 3205 28th St., Greeley.
Services: Saturday at 10 a.m. at Gloria Christi Lutheran
Church, 1322 31st Ave., Greeley.
