| He was born Sept. 14, 1929, in Rocky Ford, Colo., to George and
Charlotte (Hall) Hammill.
Charles graduated from Rocky Ford High School in 1947 and
received a master’s degree in education.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1948 to 1952.
Charles was a teacher for 30 years at Longmont High School.
He volunteered with the Longmont Emergency Unit for nine years and
worked at the North Main Amaco Station, retiring in 1989.
While serving in the Navy, he received a medal from the pope.
His parents and a sister, Jane Taylor, precede him in death.
Survivors include three sons, Michael, Robert and John Hammill;
three daughters, Roxanne Hammill and husband Mike Hendricks,
Jennifer Dool and husband Bill, and Margaret “Peggy” Meeker and
husband Rex; a niece, Mary Jane Taylor; and seven grandchildren,
Sam, Pete, Irene, Ryan, Cliff, Connor and Morgan.
Memorial service 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 31, at Ahlberg Funeral
Chapel. Cremation at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory. Military
honors provided by U.S. Navy Honor Guard and American Legion Post
32, Longmont.
Memorial contributions made to American Lung Association and sent
to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.
