Herbert O. “Herb” TENNIS
, 88, of Longmont passed away December 27, 2008, surrounded by his family,
at Longmont United Hospital.
Herbert was
born September 9, 1920, in Sigourney, Iowa, to Oliver Bernis and Minnie (Rickett)
Tennis.
Herbert
graduated from Cedar High School in 1940. On January 1, 1940, he married
Marceline Barnard in Lancaster, MO. They moved to Longmont in 1962 from
Oskaloosa, Iowa.
Herbert was
a meat cutter working for Hackert’s Locker in Oskaloosa, Iowa, and in
Longmont for Longmont Locker Plant, Ray’s Little Super Market, Corner Pantry
and H&T Market. He retired in 1985.
He was of
Methodist faith and former member of St. Vrain Lodge 23 AF&AM. Herbert was
well known for having a big green thumb and his flower garden showed this.
Herb was a loving, caring and kind person to everyone and he adored his
family.
He is
preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Albert Tennis, two sisters,
Mildred McGlothlen and Margaret Allgood.
Herbert is
survived by his wife, Marceline Tennis, Longmont, three sons, Larry Tennis
(Sharon), Northglenn, CO, Barry Tennis
(Arleen), Longmont, CO, and Bernard Tennis, Wilton Manors, FL; three
daughters, Donna Hugo (Tom), Loveland, Ryssa Gransee, Longmont and Peggy
Gwin (Mike), Loveland; 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 4
great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial
service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sat. Jan. 3, 2009, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.
Cremation handled by Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Cremation Services.
Contributions may be made to National Kidney Foundation or National Multiple
