Leigh STEVENSON
of Longmont, Colorado, passed away quietly at her home on Friday,
April 24, 2009. She was 90 years old.
Helen Leigh Dunn was born September 19, 1918, in
Stratton, Colorado, to James and Lillian (Hamlin) Dunn. She and her
six siblings moved several times as children, living in towns such
as Pueblo and Silt, Colorado. She graduated from high school in
Idaho Falls, Idaho, and later returned to Pueblo where she worked as
a legal secretary. It was there that she met James H. Stevenson, and
they were married October 13, 1940, in Raton, New Mexico.
Upon Mr. Stevenson’s return from the Army following
World War II, the couple lived in Cheyenne, Wyoming, until 1957 when
he went to work for the Federal Aviation Administration in Phoenix,
Arizona. They transferred to and settled in Longmont in 1962.
Leigh enjoyed traveling and was able to visit many
countries with friends and travel clubs. She was an avid bridge
player, playing often with groups in Longmont and Boulder. She was a
woman of style and class who loved dressing to the nines to have
lunch with friends.
Mrs. Stevenson will be dearly missed by her son, John
Stevenson and his wife, Lynn,
of Longmont; all of their family members including, Kim Daley of
Longmont, who had cared for her in her last several years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her
husband, Jim on May 20, 1992; and by two brothers and four sisters.
Private services will be held at a later date.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Howe Mortuary and Cremation
Services, Longmont. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of
the donor’s choice.
