Mildred ‘Mil’ H.CARLSON passed away on October
18, 2009, at Life Care Center in Cheyenne, Wyoming, at the age of 91. She was born November 7, 1917, in Melborne, Missouri, to James and Elizabeth Holden. After a fire destroyed her father’s coal mine, the family moved to Greeley, Colorado, in 1932 where she finished school graduating from the Bynum Academy of Beauty Culture.
She married Robert C. G. Carlson, a farmer and cattle feeder, in Longmont on May 19, 1945. The “city” girl / beautician quickly had to become a farm wife driving tractors, beet trucks, feeding animals and yes, butchering too! However, she never gave up her classy style and would rarely be seen off the farm without dressing up.
Robert and Mildred raised three sons and a daughter teaching them that hard work doesn’t hurt and to also have a strong faith in God therefore leaving a legacy with them and now nine grandsons, one granddaughter, four great-grandsons, and three great granddaughters.
She resided in Longmont until Robert’s death in 1997. She then went to live with her son Mike in Northglenn and then after the onset of Alzheimer’s disease, she moved to Cheyenne to be near her daughter, Becky.
Mildred is survived by her sons Rob (Lynda) of Loveland, Mike (Cindy) of Northglenn, Alan (Penny) of Scottsdale, AZ, and daughter Becky of Pine Bluffs, WY, grandchildren Erik (Amy) of Colorado Springs, Aaron of Loveland, Nathan (Tara) of Commerce City, Jonathan (Brandi) of Littleton, Joshua, Dustin and Derek of Scottsdale, Nick and Caitlin of Northglenn, Mike of Elko, NV, and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Ellen, 100, of St. Petersburg, FL.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and a sister.
Visitation will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, October 22, 2009, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 23, 2009, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. Interment at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry Street, Longmont, CO 80501.
